meet the founder

Kerstin Gardey is the founder and principal designer of Atelier Gardey. Her path into interiors began with a love for antiques and the feeling certain spaces could hold—how materials, light, and objects could come together to shape an experience.

After studying Art at UCSC and working at a luxury design firm, she founded the studio as a way to bring thoughtful, layered design into everyday spaces. Today, you’ll find her sourcing vintage pieces, sketching floor plans, and working closely with clients to bring their spaces to life —always with a cup of coffee and her Fujifilm not too far out of reach.

the approach

fig. 05

Atelier Gardey was built on the belief that good design supports how you actually live. That means spaces that feel layered but not overdone, always practical while undeniably beautiful. We take time to understand each client and project—how a space is used, what matters most, what’s not working—and shape the design around that.

No matter the scope, we’re here to guide you from vision to reality. Our process moves from initial direction through space planning, sourcing, and coordination—overseeing everything from renovations to install days, all the way down to the final layer of styling.
